I did Susan’s cleanse with the intention of learning to eat cleaner, not totally cleansing, and it has been life changing. I used to eat very healthy but three kids later and always tired, I found myself eating food that was easy to make and comforting, but didn’t taste good or bring me energy. Susan’s simple information on which five food areas to avoid or lessen in combination with her own hands on demonstrations of how to cook certain staples made for an easy transition back to enjoying the foods I love. Additional results have been increased energy, less mood swings, and my skin has improved as well!
The teaching kitchen part was my favorite- I learned how to make almond milk, pesto, healthy truffles, smoothies, and zucchini spirals which gave me alternatives to dairy, pasta, dressings, and sauces. Just by being in her kitchen, I also got reacquainted with some of my old favorite snacks such as nuts (like sprouted almonds- my now favorite snack, and pistachios- my kids’ favorite) and hummus.
As a lifelong weight watcher struggler, eating cleaner has given me the permission I needed to eat as much of the foods I love such as nuts and almond butter which are higher in fat, but balancing those additional calories by not eating pastas, bread, yogurt, and cheese. I feel free and happy when I eat now.
The great thing about eating cleaner is also that it doesn’t have to be totally clean to benefit. I still have coffee in the morning and wine when I go out. I plan to eat as clean as possible when in my own kitchen, and do the best I can when I’m out at a restaurant, on vacation, or at someones house. For me, the ability to be moderate has been helpful.
Eating cleaner has given me back many of the things I have missed after becoming a mom- energy, better sleep, nicer skin, a glow, and even less mood swings! My husband and kids have benefited as well! Thank you, Susan!
