For the past 4 years, I’ve struggled with my weight, low energy levels and a host of other bodily complaints that mount up for middle aged women. I’ve read books on clean eating, joined and quit gyms, been poked with acupuncture needles and downed tons of nutritional supplements without losing a pound or feeling better in any way. It took me a solid year to get around to doing Susan Chasen’s 21 day cleanse–perhaps because I’d just about given up hope.

Within 3 days of beginning the program, my energy was fully restored, my stomach stopped feeling bloated and uncomfortable, I enjoyed exercise again and by day 21, I’d lost 8 lbs. All the while, Susan made the transition from my daily doses of Haagen Daz to almond butter on granny smith apple slices easy and satisfying. She creates a supportive group dynamic for each of her “pledge classes,” and encourages frequent communication between group members throughout the week to share accomplishments, challenges and, best of all, recipes.

Susan is incredibly knowledgeable and a caring resource who practices what she preaches to great effect–she positively glows and has enough energy to light up all of Croton! My advice: don’t wait a year to experience good health. You will wonder why you resisted after a few days of eating real food with plenty of reward and satisfaction!

From Garden to Plate – Homemade Tomato Sauce! I From Garden to Plate – Homemade Tomato Sauce!

In this week’s Teaching Kitchen video, I’m making a fresh, flavorful homemade tomato sauce using beautiful local tomatoes at their peak. This is real, nourishing food.

Here’s how it all came together:
🧅 Sautéed chopped onion and garlic in #evoo 
🍄‍🟫Added in mushrooms for umami flavor
🍅Blanched and peeled ripe local tomatoes, chopped and simmered adding to them to my rich sauce
 🌿Tossed in fresh basil from my garden
🫒 Finished with a handful of Kalamata olives

I’m serving this delicious sauce over a mix of @jovialfoods brown rice pasta and fresh zoodles. 

This sauce is simple, seasonal, and adaptable to your choice of protein, I added in sea scallops.
