Healthy Road Trip Snacks

Healthy Road Trip Snacks

Summer vacations are all about hitting the road, family-style. Whether you are traveling by plane, train or automobile, snacks are essential for happy campers having to endure long lines or sitting for hours.

With just a little planning, you can make travel seamless by packing a cooler with healthy snacks that won’t break the bank and will have them asking for more. Here are some good mood-boosting snack ideas that will keep your travelers smiling and satiated too.

Eat Your Veggies

Your kids may turn up their noses to veggies at home but creating single serving size bags bursting with colors of the rainbow, may have them asking for seconds. My favorites: red, yellow & orange peppers, snap peas, carrots, and string beans. Pack individual size hummus for dipping.

Trail Mix

No two kids are alike so why should their trail mix be the same?  With just a little bit of planning, surprise them with a custom trail mix blend individually made just for them.

Nuts

A handful of nuts are nature’s perfect snack. Almonds, cashews, walnuts and pistachio nuts are a great source of protein and healthy fat, a winning combination to combat hunger.

Energy Bars

Make you own energy or granola bars with your favorite nuts, seeds or dried fruit. When buying store bought bars, look for 5 ingredients or less. Try bars sweetened with dried fruit instead of sugar.  My favorite are Lara bars.

Get decadent and travel in style, make these irresistible combos!

  1. Celery sticks filled with almond butter and raisins.
  2. Fresh fruit-kabobs on wooden skewers.
  3. Nut butter and banana tortilla roll ups.

With a little bit of planning, you will be sailing past those tourist rest stops and vending machines. Happy summer travels.
